Founded over 80 years ago, Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society is one of the oldest choirs and the only Cathedral-based choral society in Wales. The Society performs major choral works in the glorious setting of Llandaff Cathedral and is pleased to enjoy a special relationship with one of Wales' most historic religious buildings.
Giving three major concerts each year in the Cathedral, together with an annual Christmas concert, the choir has also previously undertaken tours in France and Belgium. The choir has also taken part in the Welsh Proms and in 2019 joined forces with Cardiff Polyphonic, the Ardwyn Singers and the Schöneberg Symphony Orchestra to perform Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Cardiff, St Davids and Berlin, all to standing ovations.
Over the years and under a succession of outstanding conductors; Avril Harding, Dominic Neville, Alexander Thacker, and presently Simon Lovell-Jones, the choir has performed almost all of the great choral works. It has also commissioned and performed new works by some of Wales’ leading composers, including Ben Heneghan and Iain James Veitch. The choir sang online throughout the 2020 and 2021 COVID-19 lockdowns, producing several You Tube video performances, one of which you can hear in our 'Have a Listen' section.
Today the Society is a thriving and welcoming community of over 100 members, drawn from all walks of life, brought together by a love of singing and a commitment to delivering excellent performances.
